Oakland County Kick-Off Show May 12, 2007

May 12, 2007 was our local 4H Kick Off Show. Everyone was excited to finally be back showing. The fairgrounds feels like home to us.

Present for showing at this show were Bekah riding Blissfield's Dejia, Jenna riding Coolio, Colin McGeen riding CS Barnstormer, Amanda Work riding Glory and Rebel, and Megan Ward riding Charm.

It was an eventful show to say the least but everyone did good and had a successful day with everyone getting at least one ribbon.

Rebekah received her first blue ribbon of the year riding Dejia in the Junior Western Horsemanship class. These two become more of a team at each show. Sometimes it's hard to tell where the rider ends and the horse begins. Bekah truly loves Dejia and Dejia Bekah.

They are a pleasure to watch in all that they show in, but especially in SPEED! Dejia just flies and you can tell this horse LOVES the speed events!

Bekah's boyfriend John also attended the show and I give him tons of credit. He doesn't ride but was there to support Bekah ALL DAY! Those of us that show know that horse shows can be long, hard days and sometimes quite boring. A lot of "hurry-up and wait" and sometimes watching pattern classes is much like watching paint dry. But John was there all day, helping out with everything and enduring the jokes and "death stares" from some of our younger riders who shall remain nameless, LOL.

Jenna and Coolio rode in both English and Western Walk/Trot classes. I don't think Coolio has ever had a western bridle on or if he did, he never learned to neck rein, yet Jenna and Coolio placed in all of their classes, with a third in Western Equitation. He tried so hard to understand what she was asking him to do and was calm and cool the whole day.

Another pair who look as if they are one is Colin and Storm. These two grew up together and are such a cohesive team. Storm responds almost instantaneously to Colin and the cues are almost imperceptible. Their personalities are a great match as both love to have fun and joke around.

Megan showed Charm in showmanship and placed, I believe, 4th. It is hard to keep track of so many and I give our trainer and friend Cathy McGeen all the credit for not only training eight horse/rider combinations, but for being organized enough to keep track of how everyone does. She is awesome.

Amanda and Glory were great. There was a hiccup early in the show (actually two) where Glory thought she would try her hand at gymnastics and literally threw herself up and over onto the ground twice before a Fitting and Showing class. She got a few scrapes but the landing seemed to knock some sense into her and they went on to take 6th in Fitting and Showing. Glory is a project for Amanda to learn and help train as she will be attending The University of Findley in the fall. Go Amanda!
